The Sofitel St James Hotel

If you celebrate Valentine’s Day, you’ll know it gets harder and harder each year, there’s always something exciting to do in London but it’s too hard to narrow it down! What to buy, where to go, what to eat? Well, we’ve narrowed it right down for you this year, you can thank us later because we’re about to let you in on a place that will make your partners heart race, their smile widen and their tummy flutter!

The Sofitel St James, the magnificent neoclassical hotel that fits in perfectly with its surroundings. Built in keeping with John Nash's Regent Street development plan, all buildings in the exclusive neighbourhood excel an instant greatness and ultimate luxury. As such Sofitel London St James has retained many original architectural features, while adding a hint of modern superfluity.

French interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon has created a contemporary yet lavish style that retains the neo-classic theme of the building, while highlighting and respecting the strong roots of its British culture. Throughout its design, Sofitel London St James combines French modernism and British old-world sophistication where traditional and contemporary elements interlace as one.

The hotel contains 183 rooms including 8 classic rooms, 73 superior rooms, 84 luxury rooms, 10 junior suites, 7 prestige suites and a royal suite. All the rooms are exquisitely decorated with beautiful neutral tones, which create a relaxed and warm atmosphere. The plush wool carpets mirror the colour scheme and oversized headboards with integral lighting further complete the chic and elegant look. The rooms are further enhanced by high definition flat screen television with 100 channels and a library of 80 movies, broadband and WiFi Internet access, coffee and tea facilities, iron and ironing boards. The breakfast was absolutely delicious and my favourite part was enjoying it in the comfort of our own room!

Our favourite part of the room was the minimalistic grace that oozed from the decor, especially the classic black and white prints of Paris and London framed in mahogany, adding a distinctly art-deco twist.

Not only are you promised a great nights sleep but you can enjoy a good time getting to that too - The St James Bar is located on the ground floor and serves some wonderful cocktails. Have your camera ready because the French antique theme will have you Instragramin’ in seconds. The bar takes its inspiration from Coco Chanel’s 1920’s apartment, and features walnut framed panels of lilac silk, mahogany, leather and deep blue mohair banquettes and contemporary prints by Blek Le Rat.

Also on the ground floor, but more for taking a time out and enjoying some tea is The Rose Lounge. And that it is – blossoms of pinks, velvets and wrappings of creams, it sets the tone for a refreshing, calming ambience. Complemented by striking displays of fresh flowers and the sounds of a gentle harp – how can you not sit back and relax with a loved one? They also serve our favourite, you’ve guessed it, Afternoon Tea!

The perfect Valentine’s Day can be topped off with a fine trip (on the ground floor) to the SO SPA. Supremely located within the hotel, you can enjoy a range of treatments together.

Distributed over three floors, the spa has retained the original features of the building with an elegant oak staircase, rose coloured marble walls, tall ceilings with intricate detailed decorative mouldings and Corinthian style marble columns. It’s the ultimate destination for tranquility, the staff are incredibly welcoming and the space just elevates peacefulness.
