The Woburn Hotel, Afternoon Tea
Just before Christmas we had the pleasure of visiting The Woburn Hotel for afternoon tea. The Woburn Estate, home of the 15th Duke of Bedford is 1 hour from north of London and just 20 minutes from Milton Keynes. The Woburn Hotel, stands at the gateway to The Woburn Estate boasts 4 AA stars and has 55 bedrooms, including 7 cottage suites. It is also home to Olivier’s, the 2 AA Rosette restaurant which has been voted “The Best Restaurant in Bedfordshire” three times in the past 4 years.
Upon arrival, we were swathed in the cool country air and comforting ambiance of warm smiles, plush interiors and cosy chairs. Once seated, the service welcomed us with the choice of prosecco or champagne and a request for which tea we fancied. Opting in the for traditional English breakfast tea and champagne, it wasn’t long before we felt fully rested and excited for what’s next.
Out whirls the three tiered frame that sweats and swells your eyes, heart and mouth. Blood pumping, the sweet treat structure is placed in front with the likes of; Freshly-Baked Mini Sultana and Plain Scones with Clotted Cream and Strawberry Preserve, Lemon Tart, Millionaire Shortbread, Fresh Fruit Pavlova and festive Cakes. Not forgetting the tier of sultry savouries; Smoked Salmon, Ham and Mustard, Egg and Cress and Cucumber and Cream Cheese. Each tier is better as the bite goes on, super fresh and extremely tasty.
At £17.25 per person, it’s pretty good value, especially compared to London afternoon tea prices. And, of course, you can choose to add a glass of something fizzy.
